Risk/Solution: Military Base needed tanker fall protection
Here’s a specific example of when you see risk and Fallproof Systems sees a solution.
Fall Arrest Risk: A Military Facility in Florida needed to have workers on top of fueling tanks for refueling of equipment on a base. The workers had to climb in open hatches while filling tanks with fuel. These workers had many challenges working at height on small platforms with no guardrails. They had no passive protection system due to the portability of their fueling equipment as well as the tankers being different sizes.
Fall Arrest Solutions: Fallproof designed a custom structure allowing the workers to attach to a Rigid Lifeline Track. This track (or rigid rail fall protection system) is a fixed overhead metal rail—usually made of steel or aluminum—that serves as a continuous anchor point for workers. Unlike flexible cable systems, a rigid track does not sag or deflect during a fall, arrests drops within inches and prevents a hazardous pendulum swing effect.
The system we designed allows workers to connect safely at ground level and remain continuously attached as they transition to the roof. Once on the roof, they can move along the edge to access the hatches, open them with the required tools, and connect fueling hoses. The rigid track system, combined with a quick-response self-retracting lifeline and properly fitted harness, provides continuous fall protection throughout the process. By reducing fall distances and limiting arrest forces, the system also enables workers to perform a self-rescue or assisted rescue if needed.
